PHILSEABOARD
Philippine Seaboard Institute for Living Knowledge and Community Resilience
ABOUT
We are the Philippine Seaboard Institute for Living Knowledge and Community Resilience (PHILSEABOARD INC.).

Conceptualized in 2019 and officially registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission in 2020, PHILSEABOARD builds Living Community Knowledgebases where indigenous wisdom, cultural heritage, citizen science, and sustainable livelihoods converge.
A seaboard is where land meets ocean,
a living edge, a place of first impact, and a gateway of exchange. The Philippines, as the eastern seaboard of Asia facing the vast Pacific, is a landscape of both vulnerability and resilience.

We turn this edge from a place of risk into a source of strength.
OUR PROJECTS
LIVING COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGEBASE
Where indigenous wisdom meets citizen science. Where heritage flows into livelihoods.
The Living Community Knowledgebase is our flagship program. It is not a static database sitting on a server. It is a living, breathing repository that grows with every story shared, every craft documented, every observation recorded, and every livelihood started.
What the Knowledgebase contains:
-
Indigenous & Local Knowledge
-
Intangible Cultural Heritage
-
Citizen-Generated Data
-
Formal Science Integration
-
Sustainable Livelihood Resources

CITIZEN-LED ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP
Communities as stewards of their own environment and resources.

We believe that the communities who live on the seaboard, who face the first impact of typhoons, who farm the land and fish the waters, hold the most urgent and valuable knowledge about their environment.

PHILSEABOARD supports marginalized communities to become stewards of their own environment and resources by:
-
Documenting local ecological knowledge – observing weather patterns, water quality, soil health, biodiversity, and resource availability
-
Informing decision-making – bringing community-generated data to local government planning and policy
-
Integrating citizen science – training community members to collect, validate, and share environmental data
-
Supporting resource-to-market opportunities – connecting sustainable practices to fair trade and livelihood pathways
ACTIVE SUPPORT NETWORKS
Bridging science, culture, and community.
We recognize that valuable knowledge exists in many places: in universities, in government agencies, in cultural institutions, and in communities. Too often, these knowledge systems remain siloed.
PHILSEABOARD dedicates its resources to widening networks and bridging knowledge systems by:
-
Building partnerships with academic institutions, cultural agencies, and international development organizations
-
Connecting marginalized sectors to scientific, cultural, and economic opportunities through training, workshops, and funding access
-
Documenting past and existing research and extension projects into a unified, searchable directory within the Living Community Knowledgebase
